Beef Production: The Basics

"BEEF PRODUCTION: the Basics" was compiled for use in training and extension with the objective of providing essential information necessary for effective beef cattle management in both small-scale and commercial beef farming in KwaZulu-Natal. "Beef in Natal" may be consulted where more information is needed.
The knowledge contained in this manual was condensed from many sources, including notes collected over more than 25 years at Farmers’ Days, Cedara Short Courses, short courses and workshops held at Irene, Onderstepoort and Silverton, lectures at the University of Natal, presentations at conferences and scientific congresses, "Beef in Natal" and many more. The personal communications of many friends, colleagues, fellow workers, teachers and mentors, especially farmers from Natal, KwaZulu-Natal, the Free State, Transvaal and Namibia provided much useful insight and information based on practical experience. All these sources, too many to site without losing brevity, are gratefully acknowledged. Any merit this publication may have is due to their contributions, whereas mistakes are the sole responsibility of the author.
