Soil Science II

Soil microbiology and organic matter; Compost-making; Plant nutrition and fertilization; Soil analysis; Fertilizer recommendations; Irrigation; Calculation of irrigation water; Scheduling of irrigation.

Farm Business Management II (Entrepreneurship Skills and Risk Management)
60 credits
Investment analysis techniques; Risk and uncertainty; Entrepreneurship (Entrepreneurship defined; Roles of small business in the economy; Advantages/disadvantages of employment/self employment; Assessment of self employment potential; Establishment of an enterprise; Forms of enterprise; The business idea; Planning the business, etc.).

Land Use Planning Project (Experiential Learning)
50 credits
The purpose of this project is to carry through and document (Report A) a planning procedure, from natural resources, available infrastructure, suitable enterprises assessment, through to preparing enterprise budgets.

A second report (Report B) is on the operation of the business / farm / community. Details must be included of activities e.g. mechanical operations, seasonal planning of operations, tasking, procedure, organisation, financial planning, spraying programme, etc.

Crop Production IIIA (Nursery Management)

Animal Production IIIC (Poultry Production)

Community Development Project (Experiential Learning)
50 credits
The purpose of this project is to carry through and document (Report A) a planning procedure, from natural resources, available infrastructure, suitable enterprises assessment, through to preparing enterprise budgets.

A report (Report B) on the operation of the organisation where experiential training is done. Details of the procedure that are followed in the working with the community, techniques employed for community participation, channels of communications within the community, resource management, observe gender relations, farming systems employed i.e their effectiveness, make critical analysis of methods used in most operations (financial management, extension, etc.)
