BURSARIES / SCHOLARSHIPSCedara College logo.jpg

Cedara College offers five academic bursaries (valued at R2000 each) on an annual basis. Three are made available to second-year students and two to third-year students.   The main criteria for awarding the bursaries are financial need and proven academic ability.  Students will be short-listed based on academic performance according to the following criteria:

#  Students must have attained an overall average of 55% in the previous academic year.

#  Students must be doing the second-year of the Higher Certificate for the first time in order to qualify for a second-year bursary; student must be in the first-year of the Diploma to qualify for the third-year bursary.

#  A student applying for the third-year bursary must not be carrying in excess of 50 credits from the Higher Certificate year.

#  Applicants will be scored on their previous years performance by calculating percentage attained per course x the credit rating of each course.  These will be totalled and the six highest scoring students will be interviewed for the second- and third-year bursaries respectively.

#  The applicants must not be in possession of any other bursary or scholarship.

Interested students may apply within the first week of each academic year.  Applications close as per the closing date listed on the application form.  All short-listed candidates will be expected to attend an interview.

Sugar Industry Trust Fund for Education

Six bursaries are awarded annually and each covers 75% of the Diploma-year Cedara College costs and 75% of the SASEX Senior Agricultural Certificate Course.  Allowance is made at the beginning of the academic year for these bursary students to attend the SASEX course held at Mt. Edgecombe.  Applications close at mid-year each year for the following academic year (exact closing date is as per the application form).

Students who have completed their Higher Certificate and will not be continuing into the Diploma and Diploma students in the forthcoming academic year may apply.  Preference will however be given to those students who register for the Diploma in Agriculture.

Selection criteria:

#   Applicants must have passed their second-year mid-year examinations.

#   Applicants need to be South African citizens, with a direct link to the sugar industry.

#   Preference will be given to students with a rural affiliation and who would consider pursuing a career in rural regions.

#   Participation and contribution to campus and community life will be favourably considered.
